South Bend Ethanol is hiring Maintenance Instrument / Electrical Technicians


To analyze and correct electrical problems and repair and overhaul electrical equipment and controls.  Calibrate control valves, level, and flow instrumentation.  Able to connect to and troubleshoot PLC programming and control issues.  Dismantle and install machinery and service equipment, including building repairs.


  • Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair or service electronic devices and systems.
  • References wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions from supervisor and site documentation covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation and electrical inspection work to be performed.
  • Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials and principles.
  • Perform PM as required.
  • Troubleshoot issues through PLC communication
  • Services electronic equipment by checking, testing and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards and similar electronic devices.
  • Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken.
  • Adheres to housekeeping and safety standards, including the required use of personal protective equipment.
  • All other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.


  • Formal apprenticeship or completion of in-plant training (OJT) program.
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Ability to work all shifts, flexible hours and mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and work without constant supervision.
  • Able to read schematics and P&ID’s
  • Ability to read and interpret ladder logic for PLC as well as relay logic
  • Familiar with AC/DC power and PLC experience preferred.
  • Delta V experience a plus
  • Preferred ISA CAP or CCST certification
  • Must have a minimum of 4 plus years of industrial electrical experience with 480 V minimum.


  • High School diploma or GED or prior experience/training in manufacturing environment is required
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, polices, and rules. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by company. Must be regularly available to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Must be available and willing to work such overtime as is necessary or desirable to meet business needs. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop.


  • Noise may exceed 85db must wear hearing protection. Exposure to extreme heat.


  • Tools, man lifts, safety equipment, Safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and steel toed shoes are required.
