Our Pekin campus produces products destined for Health, Food and Beverage, and Industrial markets.  All personnel are responsible for the safety of these products, which includes participation in training, following cGMP and food safety requirements in the facility, and reviewing and following SOPs for incoming ingredients and outgoing products.

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties.  It is not all-inclusive.  Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition; and management may modify this job description as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee plant production:
    • Ensure operational consistency through the use of training and development and use of SOPs for the lab and operations
    • Maximize efficiency of production, production rates and quality of products
    • Minimize plant down time
    • Schedule and coordinate the daily work assignments and work shift schedules to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy work environment by following all safety, health, environmental and security regulations, policies, and procedures per the Company’s IIPP, job safe practices and other related programs
  • Responsible for identifying and ordering needed material and supplies
  • Establish performance objectives and criteria for staff and monitor performance on a timely and periodic basis.  Perform timely evaluation of all staff by written performance evaluations
  • Promote teamwork and achievement of company goals by coordinating and participating in meetings between all departments to ensure the timely and accurate flow of information.
  • Regularly communicate with management and corporate as needed regarding problems or issues impacting production
  • Provide training for all staff, ensuring job competency and efficient operations
  • With assistance from the Plant Manager, coach and counsel staff and take disciplinary action on an as needed and timely basis, ensuring effective performance management
  • Working with the Plant Manager, responsible for hiring, promotions and coaching staff to ensure effective performance.   
  • Work with payroll to achieve accurate reporting of timecards.  Report all absences and vacation requests in a timely manner
  • Establish a good rapport with supply vendors
  • Provide timely and accurate labor tracking and production reports.
  • Role model a personal commitment to the Company values; promote an environment that appreciates diversity and treats all people with respect, prohibiting discrimination and harassment of any kind
  • Responsible to ensure new employees receive required safety training
  • Provide coverage for plant manager as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Engineering, biochemistry or related college degree, or equivalent experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical ability to understand ethanol production


  • Prefer three (3) or more years of direct experience in ethanol manufacturing, preferably in a Delta T ‘dry mill’ ethanol plant, including hands-on experience running process equipment and troubleshooting of equipment and systems with an in-depth knowledge of fermentation and distillation.  However, a degree in engineering, biochemistry or related field can be substituted for this experience
  • Ability to read process flow diagrams with mass and energy balances and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
  • Documented successful track record in analyzing processes and making fact-based decisions.
  • Ability to lead a team by setting clear objectives and coaching employees on the acquisition of new skills and knowledge 
  • Ability to create and monitor process operations performance metrics and communication results across the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Detailed oriented and multi-tasking skills essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate Word and Excel skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Requirements include frequently stand and walk. Occasionally to sit, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, climb stairs/ladders or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear, and smell.  Exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust or focus.
