Job Description: 

Glacial Lakes Energy (GLE), a corn ethanol industry leader, is looking to fill Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager position in Watertown, SD. Under the direction of the Director of Operations the EHS Manager Responsibilities include leadership in the development and implementation of Environmental, Health, and Safety policies, procedures for GLE and to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state safety and environmental regulations. 

Job Functions:  

  • Accountable for driving compliance with EHS policies, regulatory requirements, and engagement of the entire GLE team in safety leadership. 
  • Responsible to promote Safety leadership (meaning active participation) reinforcement, demonstrated management and commitment to safety practices from the most senior level employees down. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the company achieves set safety metrics, identify system gaps which prevent achieving metrics, and appropriately implement corrective measures. 
  • Responsible for completion of Environmental Reporting and related Environmental tasks related but not limited to the following programs: Tier II Reporting, TRI Reporting, Wastewater/Storm Water Management, RCRA, DOT certification and Air Emissions. 
  • Responsible for on-time completion of OSHA Reporting and related safety compliance tasks related but not limited to the following programs: OSHA 300 Logs, BLS reporting and OSHA Inspection Audit responses etc. 
  • Lead the preparation of all permit applications, regulatory reports, and monthly EH&S reporting. 
  • Develop processes and procedures to support changes to EH&S programs as needed based on Federal and/or State regulatory changes and/or corporate policy changes. 
  • This position will require 25-50% day travel and may require occasional overnight travel between multiple locations within South Dakota to support users; may occasionally require evening or weekend work.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Safety, Environmental Sciences or similar degree with at least 6 years of work experience in manufacturing industry leading EHS improvements or comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Required minimum of 3 years in management role, leading operational safety and environmental oversight with proven ability to deliver results. 
  • Preferred Certified Safety Professional designation granted by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), or the ability to achieve certification within 24 months 
  • Minimum OSHA 10- & 30-hour General Industry Certification 
  • Experience managing and complying with Environmental Programs to include preferably managing permits overseen by the South Dakota Department of Natural Resources (SDNR) 
  • Working knowledge of Federal OSHA standards and requirements 
  • Working knowledge of EPA and DOT/FRA regulations 
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations 
  • DOT Hazardous Material certificate, or ability to obtain one within first year of employment 
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
