ROLE: Directs the activities of the entire Ethanol Production facility, including meeting production schedules and quality of product. The Plant Manager must be able to effectively work in a team environment while exhibiting strong leadership, communication skills, and interpersonal skills to continually improve the operations of the ethanol facility.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Lead facility management team while fostering a culture of safety, structure, and improvement. Achieve all goals through training of all employees and establishing processes which support all key issues. Develop continuous improvement projects and assist with facility operations. Must be able to prioritize schedule and plant needs based on the severity of the problem. Stay continuously acquainted with the plant production equipment, updates and schedules. Troubleshoot and resolve problems that arise in the facility. Maximize facility efficiency through teamwork and innovation. Lead and coordinate facility shutdown and startups. Effectively communicate facility performance with management team and other departments. Keep General Manager informed on all key current and upcoming facility factors. Meet all regulatory compliance standards. Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times. Develop and provide presentations to management and facility team member training. Responsible for performance management of supervised employees, including performance reviews, goal-setting, production goals, disciplinary action, and training.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: EDUCATION: 1) Equivalent of college degree (technical or non-technical discipline), or 2) multi-craft skills acquired through extensive on-the-job training or apprenticeship programs, or 3) in-depth and job specific skills acquired through a combination of formal instruction and on-the-job training. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be able to build, maintain, and contribute to a team environment. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Work involves extensive personal contact with members of the senior management team, internal managers, and high level managers and officials from outside the organization. External contacts are vital, not only for the success of the position, but the success of the company overall. OTHER SKILLS: Self-motivated and highly organized. Ability to lead people and maintain a cohesive team-based environment. An understanding of manufacturing operations and cost control. Knowledge of grain processing, ethanol production, accounting, basic chemistry, and PC skills required. Should be knowledgeable about regulations such as ATF, EPA, OSHA, and DOT.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to manage confined space entry, climb ladders, heights above 100 feet, lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Must be able to adapt to outside work environment which includes heat, cold, wind, rain, and dust. Individual will be exposed to high noise levels. Data entry while seated for greater than one hour.
