ROLE:   This position is responsible for all quality-related activities in the facility.  Oversee activities of the laboratory technician's tasks. Responsible for overall operations of laboratory. This position is Safety Sensitive.



20%  Ensure all company requirements are met and processes are established to maintain standards.  Establish, maintain, review and revise manuals, records, reports and other documenation for compliance to company standards.

20%  Provide results interpretation and assist with trouble-shooting processes by close interface with Operations employees. Research and develop for new test methods and controls.

20%  Train and supervise lab personnel in their daily duties. Communicate performance expectations clearly and give feedback on a regular basis, including completing performance evaluations. Assess training needs and make arrangements for training to take place.

15%  Communicate with customers on quality and product specifications. Establish test mehtods and procedures, review and update as needed. Serve as liason with other departments regarding quality issues.

15%  Perform diagnostic analysis of lab equipment for preventative maintenance. Trouble-shoot and repair equipment or facilitate repairs as required.

10%  Collect samples and conduct hands-on quality control tests following established test methods.

2. Develop knowledgable laboratory technicians with leading edge awareness of quality and operational issues

3. Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with direct reports, management, and all coworkers



Experience: 1 year or longer of similar or related experience

Education: Bachelor degree in a related field preferred

Interpersonal: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact

Skills: Work involves extensive personal contact with others and may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts are important, and fostering sound relationships with other entities is necessary.

Other Skills:  Thorough knowledge of ASTM, Standard Laboratory Practices and Test Methods.  Understanding of gas and liquid chromatography.  Demonstrated ability to apply analytical chemistry to standard wet lab testing.  Strong analytical skills.  PC skills and interpersonal skills required.  Must demonstrate strong supervisory skills.
