SIRE, an Iowa limited liability company, was organized on March 28, 2005 by 19 individual farmer/investors for the purposes of raising capital to develop, construct, own and operate a dry mill corn-based ethanol plant near Council Bluffs, Iowa. These original 19 sought to create a state of the art ethanol facility in their southwest region of Iowa and create a local market for their farm products, to participate in the growth of the ethanol field and provide a dried distillers grain w/soluble (DDGS) resource in the area. The investors in SIRE shared the mission of creating additional resources for increasing energy independence for the nation.
SIRE is designed to process approximately 44 million bushels of corn per year into approximately 125 million gallons of ethanol and 365,000 tons of DDGS. The facility also produces wet distillers grains and corn oil, and has a co-location agreement with a plant purchasing CO2 and another plant purchasing corn oil.
SIRE was constructed on an approximately 275-acre site. The site sits between Interstate Highway 29 and the Missouri River, just south of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The site has ready access to transportation, including Interstate Highway 29 and nearby Interstate Highway 80, and five rail carriers. The site is also adjacent to the MidAmerican Energy power plant.
